“I am delighted with my new fitted wardrobes – this is truly high-quality craftsmanship. Neil is an accomplished designer, very helpful with advice and uses high quality materials, always checking to make sure the finished product meets expectations.

Neil and his team made a very professional job, with lots of attention to detail and working very hard from start to finish. They always tidied up at the end of the day, so it was a stress-free experience. I highly recommend The Little Woodshed and I’ll be back with my next project. Thank you.”

The Brief

Zofia, based in Whitstable, Kent, wanted to improve storage within her modern bungalow while maintaining a clean, uncluttered living environment.

The goal was to install bespoke fitted wardrobes in both the bedroom and home office creating storage for a wide range of items, including clothes, ironing board, step ladders, DIY equipment and general household belongings while achieving a minimal, tidy and organised finish throughout the home

Zofia had very specific ideas about how the wardrobes should function internally, based on research and a family member’s existing cabinetry.

The Challenge

Off-the-shelf wardrobe solutions were not suitable for this project:

  • The storage requirements included unusual and varied items, requiring a highly customised internal layout.
  • The desired internal configuration was not commercially available.
  • Zofia wanted to replicate a specific internal fit-out and door design, which standard furniture couldn’t match.
  • The wardrobes needed to integrate seamlessly with the existing colour scheme of the property.

Like many homes in Whitstable, achieving both practical storage and a clean aesthetic required a fully bespoke approach.

The Solution

Neil worked closely with Zofia to design and build a completely tailored fitted wardrobe solution.

  1. Consultation

A detailed consultation was carried out to fully understand the types of items requiring storage, internal configuration preferences, door design details and colour matching requirements.

  1. Design Using SketchUp

A fully bespoke internal layout was created using SketchUp. The design was tailored to accommodate larger and unusual household items and everyday clothing and storage needs.

Special attention was given to:

  • Accurate spacing
  • Functional zoning within the wardrobe
  • Replicating the exact internal structure Zofia wanted
  1. Custom Door & External Design

A specific door detail was recreated to match existing cabinetry from a family reference

The external finish was carefully designed to maintain a modern, clean look and blend seamlessly with the rest of the bungalow. Neil was able to advise specifically on a colour chosen – which after investigation by the client discovered that Neil’s advice was correct, and she avoided a very expensive mistake.

  1. Crafting & Installation

The project was built using high-quality, durable materials. Precision fitted to maximise available space and colour-matched sprayed finish applied to integrate perfectly with the interior.

Throughout the project:

  • Careful attention was given to detail
  • Work areas were kept clean and tidy
  • Disruption was kept to a minimum as Zofia worked from home

The Result

The completed fitted wardrobes feels fully integrated into the property, combining practicality with refined design. They:

  • Transformed both the bedroom and home office into organised, functional spaces
  • Provided tailored storage for a wide range of items
  • Maintained a clean, minimal aesthetic throughout the home
  • Delivered a high-quality, long-lasting solution built to exact requirements

Frequently Asked Questions

Can fitted wardrobes be designed for unusual storage requirements?

https://www.thelittlewoodshed.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/AV-Media-cabinet-Company-Kent-4.jpgYes — bespoke wardrobes can be fully customised to store items like ironing boards, ladders, and specialist equipment. We can add drawers, rails, shelves to suit needs.

Can you match existing colours and finishes?

Absolutely — finishes can be colour matched to integrate seamlessly with your current interior or any colour that you wish can be accommodated.

Are bespoke wardrobes better than off-the-shelf options?

In many cases, yes — they provide a better fit, higher quality materials, and can be tailored exactly to your needs. You can maximise storage to make the most of the space available.

What is the difference between a vinyl or melamine MDF versus a spray finish?

A spray finish is highly resistant to moisture. It has a long service life of 10-15 years. It is resistant to peeling, delaminating or bubbling. It is repairable and therefore is ideal for doors and decors on fitted furniture.

A vinyl or melamine finish has much shorter lifespan of 5 to 10 years and is much more susceptible to significant failure, especially on exterior panelling.

If you can budget to spray finish – this is ALWAYS recommended.

How much does a spray finish wardrobe cost?

The Little Woodshed provides the highest end spray painted finish for a mid-price budget. The Little Woodshed recommend a budget of £3,300 for a 3-door wardrobe depending on finish and requirements.

Google AI (June 2026) set out costs of a 3-door fitted wardrobe as being £2,900-£4,500. We would say we are very good value for the high quality that we deliver.
